MASK
for no-input mixer composed in 2002 total duration: 25' A no-input mixer is a mixing board, which does not have any external sound sources connected to it. By using certain connections between its various outputs and inputs, internal feedbacks are created that are then used as the basic musical material. Characteristic of the no-input mixer is, that the various feedbacks often interfere with each other in unpredictable ways, creating a kind of 'life on its own'. The piece 'Mask' was inspired by schamanistic rituals and searches for a balance between textures and sounds in which the mixers 'life on its own' is put in the foreground, and others where the control of the performer predominates. 'Mask' was released as a limited edition on mini CDs in 2005. The score which can be downloaded served me as a memory aid when performing the piece. It is not legible as a traditional score. |
