MATROSEN, LEPRAKRANKE, OPIUMRAUCHER, SPIONE. MIT SO'NER FAMILIENGESCHICHTE, WIE HABEN WIR DA WAS ANDERES WERDEN KÖNNEN, ALS SCHLAMPEN?
for viola solo
This piece was written for the violinist and viola player Barbara Lüneburg. The first part was premiered at a concert in De Bosch/The Netherlands in January 2002. The complete version was premiered in Amsterdam in February 2002. The shape of the piece in a drafty form was generated by a set of small musical motives, each of which representing an alphabetic letter. The motives were subsequently combined according to the text 'Matrosen, Leprakranke, Opiumraucher, Spione. Mit so 'ner Familiengeschichte, wie haben wir da was anderes werden können als Schlampen?'.The text itself was chosen by Barbara Lüneburg. When two of the motives were combined, they influenced each other appearances according to certain rules. All of this in the first step created a sort of generative composition. Several revisions followed where the original rules were applied with increasing flexibility. Those revisions partly took place in close collaboration with the interpreter. The piece was released on the CD "Voor het hooren geboren" (Coviello Classics) in 2006.
