11 ROOMS
for four saxophonists and a multimedia performer composed in 2022 duration: ~25 minutes Written for KLEXOS 11 ROOMS is a concert work that expands beyond the concert space. While it already starts in the entrance hall in front of the auditorium, it ends in the virtual space by inviting the audience to load a website with sound and video with their mobile phones. Artistically, 11 ROOMS investigates notions of private and public space. I developed it specifically for the members of KLEXOS whose four saxophonists provided me with various videos of their daily domestic and music-related routines. This material I combined with a virtual 3D house that the multimedia performer of KLEXOS (its 5th member) navigates in during the performance. Those actions in the virtual space are in direct interaction with those performed by the saxophonists. In 11 ROOMS the saxophonists don't play a single note on their saxophones. Rather, the instruments are used as resonant chambers for electronically generated audio signals. As additional speakers, only low cost pocket amplifiers are used. 11 ROOMS was premiered in Plasencia/Spain in July 2021 and performed again in Graz in March 2022. Back to Intermedia Works
