SEQUENCED SEIZURE
for string quartet 2004 duration: 30' Premiered by the Zephyr Kwartetin December 2004 in Concertgebouw Amsterdam. “Sequenzed Seizure” explores sequential harmonic successions within microtonal harmonic systems that are in constant fluctuation. It consists of 39 segments that the interpreters can combine in part or as a whole in almost any combination. By choosing a certain selection and order, the musicians are becoming co-composers of the piece, creating their very own version of the composition. My primary interest in this piece lay in exploring harmonic fluctuations and colorations by varying timbre, density, intonation and registration. Sequenced Seizure was also performed by the Formalist Quartet in Los Angeles and by EnAccord in the Netherlands. Back to Instrumental Music
